Viorel

Viorel has a passion for balfolk: music created for dance, performed by folk musicians Hartwin Dhoore on the diatonic accordion and Jeroen Geerinck on acoustic guitar. Both have been playing as solo artists throughout Europe for years, and Viorel represents a new "stage" in their musical journey. Drawing inspiration from their longstanding friendship, they found motivation in each other's perseverance to continue creating new music, even during the challenging period of 2020-2021. Spontaneity and purity are at the core of their collaborative music-making. With a brand new repertoire, they aim for a genuine connection with the dancers, reaching the "core of balfolk" according to Viorel.

Their debut album, "Flandriens," features 11 original, gentle balfolk melodies that reflect the energy of their live performances.

The newly composed melodies on this album are the result of co-writing sessions in the spring of 2022. While Viorel seeks a sound close to the acoustics of their instruments, their playful arrangements bring a subtle flow to the repertoire.

It's a fresh-sounding record, co-written by two passionate musicians who know their craft.
